Hayesville, NC – Swain Soccer earns their second conference win against Hayesville making them 2-1 in the conference and 2-4 in the season.
Junior Cooper Reinert started swain off with a goal in the first half. This was followed by goals from senior captain Johnathan Duncan and junior Eduardo Zavala assisted by senior Nick Callahan. The first half ended with a score of 3-0.
Hayesville sophmore Seth Hatherly scored an early goal in the second half. Hatherly capitalized on a pass through the defense and finished with a goal against Swain GK Ryan Tranter.
“The ball slipped through our defensive line. Hayesville has speed and once they are behind your defense it’s hard to catch them.” said Coach Parton “That goal seemed to put us in panic mode for a few minutes but we finally settled down and started playing our game again.”
Senior Sam Kolodski scored the final goal with a beautiful shot from outside of the 18yd box ending the game with a score of 4-1.
“We started playing a new formation this season, and it’s really helped our possession game. Our goals are simple: conserve energy, don’t allow shots within the 18yd box, and have patience.” says Coach Parton. “We go over this before every game, and the team is starting to believe in the process. You can’t force goals, you have to wait for the perfect moment and capitalize on it.”
“I think we played well and had plenty of opportunities, but there is definitely room for improvement.” says Johnathan Duncan.
Swain is looking pretty good in the conference and is set to play Andrews Wednesday September, 24 at 6:00 PM. This game will be broadcasted live over the internet. Make sure you tune in at maroondevils.com/watch-live
