BRYSON CITY, WNC – Swain County High School is proud to announce the signing of three members of the 2011 State 1AA Championship Maroon Devil football team. Colby Hyatt and Jared Turbyfill have signed Grant in Aid to continue their football careers with Mars Hill College, while Drew Huskey committed to Mars Hill College. Hyatt and Huskey will continue their playing careers while Turbyfill will become a student-coach.
Colby Hyatt (#12) – Hyatt was a 2 year starter at quarterback for the Maroon Devils. He rushed for 898 yards, while throwing for 1291 yards and 13 TDs, completing 54% of his passes, this past season in helping to lead the Devils to the State 1AA Crown. He was named the Most Valuable Player at the 2011 State 1AA Championship game.
Drew Huskey (#31) – Huskey was a 2 year starter on defense for the Maroon Devls as strong safety. This past season he helped the Maroon Devils capture the State 1AA Championship. He tallied 107 tackles on the season, including 15 for loss, with 2.5 sacks and an interception.
Jared Turbyfill (#8) – Jared was a 3 year starter on defense for the Devils. He led the 2012 Devils with 9 sacks and finished his career with 20 sacks. This year he had 104 tackles, including 21 for loss.
