The Maroon Devil basketball team will have exactly 2 practices under their belt when they open the season Friday with a trip to Cherokee. It is unusual that the Devils would open their season with a conference game, but football playoffs forced them to re-schedule most of their early season games.
So now the Devils will face off with their county rivals in the season opener. The Braves have already opened their season and have 3-4 games under their belts, including a couple of conference games.
The Lady Devils, while having more practice time than their male counterparts, have a stiffer challenge, as they open with the defending State Runner-up. Cherokee returns almost everyone from a team that made a State Title run last year, and look to do the same this year. To compound things the Devils will be without leading scorer Jordan Maples, who is out until January.
TIp off will be at 4 with JV girls, from Cherokee Central Schools in Cherokee.
