CHEROKEE – Swain standout Valerie Arkansas has been named the Smoky Mountain Conference Player of the Year for the second year in a row. The senior setter paced the Lady Devil offense this season with 767 assists. From the service line Arkansas added 56 aces for Swain. For good measure she also had 34 block assists.
“Val had a great season for us,” commented head coach Sonya Blankenship, “as well as a great career at Swain. I am happy that the conference saw her in the same light that I did and named her Player of the Year, a very deserving honor.”
Senior Alex Treadway and junior Lydia Sale join Arkansas on the All Smoky Mountain Conference list for 2013. Treadway, a libero, was key for the Devils from the back row, where she posted a team high 281 digs. Sale, an outside hitter, was Swain’s leading hitter with 305 kills on the season.
