BRYSON CITY – The Maroon Devils rode the arm of Raymius Smith to a season high in points friday as they downed Andrews 56-19. For the second straight week the Devils had over 40 points at halftime, this time building a 49-13 halftime advantage.
Smith threw for a season high 279 yards on 11 of 19 passes which inclueded 3 touchdowns. While it was Smith’s season high, it was far from his school record 426 that he threw for in last year’s State Championship game. The 279 yards was 5th best all time at Swain though, giving Smith 2 of the top 5 spots in all time passing yards for a game.
Kobe Toineeta was on the receiving end of 5 of Smith’s passes which went for a career high 134 yards receiving. Jordan Cody grabbed 3 balls for 90 yards. Toineeta and Cody each scored a touchdown, while Kyle Matthews accounted for the other Smith touchdown pass.
Dylan Morgan and Dakota Brown each had an interception on the night for the Maroon Devil defense. Taylor Oros had a team high 10 tackles for the Devils.
Swain moves to 7-2 on the season and 4-0 in conference play, running their streak of conference wins to 16 straight. Friday they travel to Rosman.
