Hayesville – The Maroon Devil track team traveled to Hayesville Wednesday for a 6 team meet. Swain finished a strong 2nd with 172 points. Pisgah took top honors with 192 points. Hayesville was 3rd with 84 points.
Swain’s Nse Uffort continues his rise as a standout in the throwing events. Uffort took first in both the shot and discus and it wasn’t particularly close. In the shot Uffort went for 53’3″, Taylor McClure was 2nd wtih 49′. In the discuss Uffort went for 154’7″, well ahead of 2nd place which was 119’2″.
Matthew Gray led a dominant Swain field in the pole vault. Swain finished 1, 2, and 4 in the event. Gray cleared 16′ for top honors. Owen Craig (11′) and Evan Hall (8’6″) were 2nd and 4th respectively.
The Maroon Devil distance runners had a strong showing as well. In the 800-meter Kane Jones (2:07.08), Adhi Patel (2:08.7) and Connor Lambert (2:13.93) finished 1st, 2nd and 4th respectively. Connor Brown (4:50.61) and Carl Baird (5:03.39) finished 1st and 2nd in the 1600-meters.
Josiah Glaspie had a standout day as well. Glaspie collected two 2nd place finishes, in the 100 and 200-meters, and took top honors in the 400-meter dash.
Austin Jenkins was 2nd in both the 110-hurdles and the 300 hurdles.
The 4×800 meter relay team took first with a time of 8:45.46.
