Polk County – The Lady Devil track team finished 2nd at the prestigious Alan Peoples Invitational this past weekend in Polk County. Grimsley High School from Greensboro finished first on the day with 180 points with Swain next at 165 points and R-S Central finished third with 113.5 points.
Swain was dominate in the distance events. Arizona Blankenship took four first place finishes on the day. Blankenship (2:29.79) took first in the 800-meter, with teammates Amaya Hicks (2:30.24) and Annie Lewis (2:30.84) finishing second and third respectively to make a clean sweep for the Lady Devils. Blankenship also took first in the One Mile Run (5:12.45) and the 3200-meter run (11:30.06).
The 4×800-meter relay team of Blankenship, Amaya Hicks, Annie Lewis and Gracie Monteith took first place with a time of 9:52.69.
Annie Lewis (5:26.73)and Amaya Hicks (5:35.68) finished first and second in the 1600-meter run.
Melani Linton took second in both the 100-meter (16.84) and 300-meter hurdles (50.30).
Swain took second third and fourth in the pole vault. Amelia Rogers was second clearing 10’6. Hannah Wingate (9′) was third and Alden Thomas (8’6) was fourth.
