Bryson City – Swain hosted Tuscola in their final tune-up before Smoky Mountain Conference play begins next week. The Lady Devils were coming off of a solid win against Blue Ridge on Tuesday and stayed hot against the Mountaineers. Swain took a 3-1 win from Tuscola by the scores of 25-13, 19-25, 25-20 and 25-17.
Leading the way was senior Haileigh Woodard who finished with 13 kills. Gracie Sutton and Kennedy Anthony each had 10 kills. Libero Kaley Parker had a team high 13 digs and continually set the Lady Devil offense with solid passing. Kiersten Smith tallied 31 assists. From the service line senior Maddie Spates had 6 aces while Anthony had 5.
In the first set it was the serving of Spates and Anthony that led to large runs. Spates served for 4 straight points that gave Swain their initial lead at 7-4. Anthony later extended the Lady Devil lead as she served for 8 straight points to give Swain 21-7 lead. In the third set it would be Kaley Parker at the service line. Parker served for 9 straight Swain points that erased a 12-11 Tuscola lead and gave Swain a 20-12 advantage.
Swain will begin conference play next Tuesday with a trip to Andrews.
