Three members of the Swain High Maroon Devils Golf Team competed in the Smoky Mountain Conference Golf Tournament. The first round commenced at Sky Valley, GA, on Thursday April 21st. Leading the tournament was Senior Will Jenkins shooting a career best 82 (+10). Senior Joe Eagleman also finished the day in the top three, wrapping up his round with an 85 (+13). Freshman Landon Harrison finished day one with a 110 (+38).
Round two was at Old Union, GA, on April 25th. Joe delivered his best career round with an 80 (+8). This placed Joe second overall in the SMC with a two-day total of 165 (+21). Will finished in solo third place with an 84 (+12) and a two-day total of 166 (+22). Landon completed his first conference tournament with a 131 (+59).
“Words cannot express how proud I am of all three players,” stated Coach Crisp. “Landon never gave up and even though he struggled at times, he saw several great shots happen and this is an opportunity for him to build on his upcoming sophomore season. Will has played for me for three years and Joe four. Each year they continued to grow in their game and continued to put forth their best effort. This is evident with their dominant performance at the SMC tournament. We discussed three things for them to do while playing. First, play your game, second, trust every shot, and third, have fun. Throughout both rounds, Will and Joe demonstrated what it meant to a Maroon Devil.” Both Will and Joe will travel to Boone for the Regional Round on May 3rd. Tee time TBD.
