Bryson City – Visiting Cherokee used a strong run to end the 3rd quarter and open the 4th to build a double digit lead. The Braves had to hold off a furious Lady Devil comeback attempt, eventually taking a hard fought 58-46 conference win over Swain.
The Lady Braves used balanced scoring, to offset early foul trouble. Cherokee had 3 players reach double figures and 10 players score in the contest. On the Swain side, only Mazie Helpman reached double figures, with only 5 players scoring in the game. Turnovers and cold shooting plagued the Lady Devils all evening.
Helpman led all scorers with 23 points to go along with a game high 12 rebounds for the Lady Devils. Maddie Spates and Savana Smith finished with 6 points a piece and Smith finished with 8 rebounds.
Creedan Arch paced the Braves with 16 points, 12 of which came in the 2nd half. Leilaya McMillian finished with 11 while Loshi Ward added 10.
