The Swain High Women’s Golf team played in the Smoky Mountain Conference Tournament on Tuesday the 10th and Thursday the 12th. Each round was nine holes. The first nine was held at Sky Valley Country Club in Georgia. Shooting a round of 50 (+14), Junior Lola Collins led the team. Juniors Mya Burrows-Kurr, Karena Cline, and Rose Carson all tied with a score of 56 (+20) for the top 3 scores. Sophomore Marlee Hicks finished the day with a 58 (+22). The team finished the first round in second place with a team total of 162.
The second round was held at Sequoyah National with the team finishing with a total of 170. Leading the 3 team score was Lola with a score of 54 (+18). Coming in second was Marlee Hicks with a 57 (+21), and third was Mya Burrows-Kurr with a 59 (+23). Finishing their rounds were Karena Cline 62 (+26) and Rose Carson 63 (+24).
The overall rankings for the tournament were Cherokee (300), Swain (332), Highlands (337), Robbinsville (343), and Tri-County (356). Lola finished with All-Conference honors and will be competing at Regionals on October 23rd at Meadowbrook Golf Club. Tee time TBD. Mya, Karena, and Marlee finished with Honorable Mention. “Words cannot express how proud of this team I am,” stated Coach Crisp. “We started the season in August and could barely hit the ball, and now through hard practice and dedication this team has made strides to better their individual games. The best part is that all five players will be returning next season.”
