The Swain High Girls Golf Team traveled to Lake Junaluska on September 21st for a nine hole match against Cherokee, Pisgah, and Robbinsville. This was by far the most improved performance by the young team all season. The team finished 3rd with a total of 163, behind first place Cherokee (151) and Pisgah (153). Leading the team was Junior Lola Collins, who had the highlight of the day with an eagle from 70 yards out on the 3rd hole. She finished with a total of 53 (+18). Tied for second place on the team were Junior Mya Burrows-Kurr 55 (+20) and Senior Anna Gray 55 (+20). Also competing and tying with 58s (+23) were Juniors Karena Cline, Rose Carson, and Freshman Taryn Craig. Sophomore Marlee Hicks finished her day with a 60 (+25). “This team is improving every week and everyday,” stated Coach Crisp. “It is an honor to watch them grow.”
The team hosted a home match against Cherokee and Robbinsville on Tuesday the 26th at Smoky Mountain Country Club. The team placed 2nd behind Cherokee (148) and in front of Robbinsville (174). This was the team’s best performance, scoring a total of 162. Shooting her best round of the year and placing first on the team was Mya Burrows-Kurr with a 52 (+17), second was Lola Collins 54 (+19). Third place was tied between Marlee Hicks and Karena Cline both shooting 56 (+21). Anna Gray and Rose Carson finished their round with a 57 (+22) and Taryn Craig with a 61 (+26). The team will travel to Sky Valley for the first round of conference on Tuesday October 9th for the first nine holes. The second nine holes will be at Sequoyah on Wednesday October 10th. Tees will start around 4 pm.
