Bryson City – Tuesday the Lady Devils hosted 1st place Robbinsville in volleyball action. The Black Knights (4-0 in SMC) looked to make short work of the Lady Devils who entered the contest winless in SMC play. But Swain had a different look and feel about them on Tuesday. The match was one of the best matches in recent history as the two teams went back and forth all night. In the end the Lady Devils pulled off the upset downing Robbinsville 25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 25-21.
Swain got stellar play from their back row, as their key passing helped set up the Devils offense. Libero Izzy Walker, Faith Woodard, Addisyn Jenkins and Kennedy Anthony were solid all night. Anthony had 12 digs, while Walker and Jenkins had 8 and Woodard 7.
From the service line the Devils were spot on all night, finishing with an 87.5% service percentage. Anthony added a team high 4 aces, while Kaley Parker and Faith Woodard had 2 each.
At the net Gracie Sutton led the way with 15 kills, with Kennedy Anthony not far behind with 12 and Kinsley Hyatt added 8. Sutton and Carley Teesateskie added 5 and 4 blocks respectively.
With the win the Lady Devils improve to 11-4 overall and 1-3 in SMC play.
