The Swain High Women’s golf team teed it up in their first ever golf match in Swain County High School history. The match on Thursday, August 31st, was held at Springdale. Playing 9 holes, Junior Lola Collins, Junior Karena Cline, and Sophomore Marlee Hicks led the team with tying scores of 62 (+26). Junior Mya Burrows-Kurr and Junior Rose Carson both finished with a 63. The team finished 4th with a team score of 186, behind first place Tuscola (139), second Smoky Mountain (155), and third Pisgah (161).
The team traveled back to Springdale on Tuesday, September 5th, for the 2nd Annual WNC Girls High School Invitational. The young team finished with a team total of 366. Leading the three team score was Marlee Hicks firing a 119 (+47). Lola Collins came in second place with a 123 (+51). Senior Anna Gray finished her day with a total 124 (+52). Also competing was Mya Burrows-Kurr with a 126 (+54) and Rose Carson 128 (+56). “Each day we are improving on our individual games to help our entire team,” stated Coach Crisp. “These girls are fun to coach and will continue to grow throughout the season. I want to thank everyone who provided clubs, golf balls, and bags for the team. This is why I love coaching and teaching in Swain County!” The team will travel to Sequoyah National next Thursday (September 14th) for a nine hole match. Tee time starts at 4:00 pm.
