The Swain High Golf team competed at the Smoky Mountain Conference Tournament on Monday where the team traveled to Old Union in Blairsville, Georgia. “On both days I challenged the team,” stated Coach Crisp, “to be a good caddie to themselves, to limit mistakes, and most importantly to have fun.” With conditions set like the British Open, cold wind was whipping across the course, the team worked hard to golf a decent round. Senior Braylon Aldridge finished in first for the young Swain team with a total of 105 (+33), Freshman Skeet Cook 106 (+34), Sophomore Landon Harrison 112 (+40), and Senior Nathan Bogdanowicz and Junior Lucas Sutton both finishing with a score of 116 (+44). On day two of the conference tournament the team competed at Mountain Harbour in Hayesville in yet again windy and cold conditions. Skeet Cook finished as the top golfer on the team with a day two score of 109 (+37), Nathan Bogdanowicz 113 (+41), Braylon Aldridge 114 (+42), Landon Harrison 116 (+44), and Lucas Sutton 117 (+45). Overall, the team finished in 6th place with a two-day total of 891 behind Murphy (664), Robbinsville (766), Cherokee (782), Highlands (843), and Hayesville (854). Skeet Cook qualified as an individual for regionals next Monday at Lincolnton Country Club in Lincolnton. Coach Crisp had this to say about his season, “It is my belief that golf is not a game of perfection. It is about minimizing mistakes and demands year-round dedication and practice. This team had one returning starter from last season. As a young team, we competed at our highest level, and I could not be prouder of their effort and dedication to this season. The 2024 season starts now, and I look forward to watching all of them practice and compete next year.”
