The Lady Devils soccer team hosted the 3A Tuscola Mountaineers on Monday night in a non-conference matchup. The Mountaineers got on the scoreboard quickly just five minutes into the game. The Mountaineers would add two more goals in the first half going up 3-0. The Lady Devils would add a goal in the second half when Sophomore Karena Cline would score off a pass from Senior Cora Watkins. The game would end with Tuscola taking the 3-1 win. “Tuscola has some talent on their team,” said Head Coach Scott Cline. “We knew it would be a tough game, but at the same time it definitely showed us some things we needed to work on.”
The Defense was led by Junior Anna Gray with 15 clears/steals. She was followed by Sophomore Sophie Matz with 11, Sophomore Rose Carson with 5, and Junior Emmie Fuller with 4. In goal, Sophomore Gracie Sutton had 4 Saves. The Player of the Game for the Lady Devils was Junior Audrey Zelenka. “Audrey helped the team a lot in the first half offensively and in the second half defensively,” said Coach Cline. “She was always willing to go in wherever we needed her to support the team.” The Lady Devils next game will be against the Pisgah Bears in Canton on Wednesday for a 4:30 kickoff. Last week Pisgah and Tuscola battled to a 1-1 tie in the Haywood County Clash.
