Polk County – Swain took top honors at this past weekends Alan Peoples Invitational meet in Polk County. The meet featured teams from all over North Carolina. Swain edged Grimsley High School for first place by a 130 to 125 score. Owen finished third with 117 points.
Matthew Gray (pole vault) and Kelan McCullough (hurdles) took the Maroon Devils only first place finishes on the day. Gray cleared 15′ to take top honors in the pole vault McCullough finished third (12’6″). McCullough (15.93) and Austin Jenkins (16:05) finished first and second in the 110-meter hurdles. Gray would add a third place finish in the long jump as he cleared 20’2″.
Nse Uffort turned in a pair of second place finishes in the shot and discus. In the discus Uffort went for 141’5″ and in the shot he tossed 49’10”.
Josiah Glaspie was second in the 400-meter with a time of 52.14. Carl Baird also finished second in the 1600-meter (4:51.01). Connor Brown took third in the One Mile Run (4:38.59).
