The Lady Devils soccer team traveled to Murphy on Monday to take on the Tri-County Early College. Just three and a half minutes into the game Sophomore Isabella Walker would score her first goal of the season. Two minutes later Walker would assist Sophomore Mya Burrows-Kurr with a goal. One minute later Senior Mahala Bird would find Burrows-Kurr for her second goal of the night. One minute after that the Lady Devils would get fouled in the box. Senior Elke Reinert would convert the penalty kick into a goal. The scoring in the first half would be capped off when Sophomore Lilah Foster would find Junior Abbey Frost for a goal. The first half would end with the Devils up 5-0.
Thirty seconds into the second half Sophomore Karena Cline would find Junior Anna Gray for a goal. Two minutes later Burrows-Kurr would find Cline for a goal. Sophomore Goalkeeper Gracie Sutton would enter the field as a field player and it would take her less than 10 seconds to score her first goal off a pass from Senior Kathryn Roland. The final goal of the game would be scored with 21 minutes left in the half when Roland would find Senior Cora Watkins for a goal. The Devils would take the 9-0 Mercy Rule win.
The Defense was led by Senior Savannah Currie and Junior Anna Gray each with 2 clears/steals. In goal, Sophomore Gracie Sutton had a first half shutout and Junior Anna Gray had a second half shutout and 1 save. The Player of the Game for the Lady Devils was Senior Kathryn Roland. “Katie stepped it up in the game and did a great job at distributing the ball,” said Head Coach Scott Cline.
The Lady Devils will travel back to Murphy High School on Thursday to take on the Murphy Bulldogs in a 6:00 kickoff. Swain is currently 5-0 in conference play and Murphy is 4-1 in conference play.
