Bryson City – The Lady Devils opened the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday as they hosted Blue Ridge. Swain used huge runs in the 2nd and 4th quarters to pull away and cruise to a 70-52 win to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Blue Ridge’s Mahala Stewart entered the game averaging 32 points per game through her first three games. Coach Josh Griffith and his squad had a master plan for slowing Stewart down. All night they chased her into double and triple teams. In the end they limited the Bobcat star to 13 points.
Just like they shared the responsibility for slowing down Stewart the Lady Devils shared the scoring load as well, pacing four players in double figure scoring. Amaya Hicks notched a double-double leading Swain with 18 points to go with 10 rebounds. Mya Burrows-Kurr added 15 points. Kiersten Smith finished with 11 points while Marlee Hicks had 10. Maddie Spates had 7 rebounds to go with 5 steals and 3 assists.
