Bryson City – It was quiet a show Tuesday evening. Swain and Murphy traded blows like a championship fight. Both teams played some outstanding volleyball. In the end it was the Lady Devils who came out on top with a 3-2 win by the scores of 13-25, 25-17, 13-25, 25-21 and 18-16.
In the 5th and deciding set the Lady Devils had their backs squarely against the wall. The Bulldogs used a steady attack of senior Liv Payne to stretch out a 14-8 lead and come one point away from taking the match. But the Lady Devils had different plans. Sophomore Kaley Parker stepped to the service line needing to get to 14 to keep Swain alive. Parker notched 2 aces and placed her serve in allowing her team to get their offense going. Kills by Gracie Sutton and Kiersten Smith put the Devils back to square at 14 all.
Now needing to win by two each team traded mistakes and kept the score tied at 16. Sophomore Gracie Sutton ended it with back-to-back kills giving Swain the win.
Unofficially Sutton had 21 kills including 13 in the final two sets.
Swain travels to Cherokee on Thursday.
