Bryson City – The first round of the NCHSAA 1A baseball playoffs started on Tuesday. Swain enters the playoffs as the number 4 seed in the west. Tuesday they hosted the number 29 seed Hiwassee Dam. The Maroon Devils used a big first inning to plate 6 runs, and never looked back taking an 11-1 first round win.
Will Jenkins and Carter Hayes drove in a pair of runs each for the Devils. Gabe Lillard, Cameron Blankenship and Carson Taylor set the table for Jenkins and Hayes as they had scored 2 runs a piece. Taylor and Lawson Woodard drove in a run each.
On the mound Ronnie Griggs pitched 3 full innings giving up just 3 hits and striking out 3. Gabe Lillard worked 2 clean innings giving up a pair of hits and striking out 4.
Up next the Devils will host South Stanley Thursday at 6 o’clock.
