Cherokee – The Maroon Devil track team flexed their muscles on Wednesday, easily outdistancing second place Murphy. Swain finished with 217 points, while Murphy came in with 114 points. Hayesville, Robbinsville, Cherokee, Andrews and Tri-County Early College finished in that order to round out the conference.
Swain’s Connor Brown took home first place finishes in the 800-meter (2:11.31), 1600-meter (4:51.60) and a second place finish in the 3200-meter (11:26.57). Abhi Patel took first in the 3200 with a time of 11:17.43. The Devils took two first place finishes in the field events. Dawson Cody took the triple jump with a leap of 40-7.75. Matthew Gray and Kelan McCullough took first and second in the pole vault.
The Maroon Devils also got first place finishes in the 4×400 meter relay and the 4×800 meter relay.
