Bryson City – Tuesday the Maroon Devils used a 3 run sixth inning to come from behind and take a 4-3 conference win over Murphy. It was the Smoky Mountain Conference opener for the Devils.
In the crucial sixth inning the Maroon Devils entered their half of the inning trailing 3-1. Gabe Lillard started the inning with a single, Lillard promptly stole second to get into scoring position. One out later, Carson Taylor worked a walk to give the Devils runners at first and second with only one out. Carter Hayes made that pay off with a solid single scoring Lillard. Will Jenkins then gave the Devils the lead with a single to left scoring both Taylor and Hayes leaving the score 4-3.
Gabe Lillard worked a scoreless seventh inning to pick up a save for the Devils. Lillard came on in relief of Charlie Collins who worked six strong innings and picked up the win. Collins struck out 10 walking only 2 and scattered 4 hits on the day.
