Winston Salem – The Lady Devils indoor track team continued their run at history this past Friday. Swain won the first ever Smoky Mountain Conference Indoor Track Championship a few weeks back. On Friday they wrote their names in the history books one more time, by claiming the NCHSAA 1A/2A Indoor Track Championship. Swain’s win marked the first time a 1A school took a Women’s Indoor Track Championship since its inception back in 2014.
For the Lady Devils it continues their consecutive run streak. Swain took the 2021 Outdoor Track Championship, then won their first every Cross Country Championship in the fall, and now topped those by taking the school’s first every Indoor Championship.
Top finishers for the day were:
- Arizona Blankenship 2nd in the 1600 meter
- Amelia Rogers 2nd in the Pole Vault
- 4×800 Relay – Blankenship, Amaya Hicks, Gracie Monteitha nd Lauryn Linton
- Arizona Blankenship 3rd in the 3200 meter
- Amaya Hicks 4th in the 500 meter
- Gracie Sutton tied for 4th in the High Jump
Swain’s Matthew Gray finished 2nd in the Pole Vault, by clearing 15′, which qualifies him for Nationals.
