Sparta – The Maroon Devil wrestling team participated in the Western Regionals this past weekend, which was held at Alleghany High School. Top 4 finishers in each weight class qualified to advance to the NCHSAA State Championships this coming weekend in Greensboro.
Swain had 7 total wrestlers advance by virtue of finishing in the top 4 of their weight class. Kale Stephenson (113), Owen Craig (126), Adam Cotterman (138), Gabe Lillard (170), Blake Sain (195), Carson Taylor (220) and Kohlton Neadeau (285). Carson Taylor was the top Swain finisher on the weekend, placing 2nd in the 220 pound weight class.
