Bryson City – Another night and different hero for the Devils as Donnavin Groenewald and Isaiah Collins combined for 53 points to power the Devils to an 82-62 win over visiting Cherokee. The Devils got off to a hot start, behind an electric home crowd, outscoring the Braves 23-9 over the game’s first eight minutes.
Forward Donnavin Groenewald sparked the Devils to their hot start. The senior poured in 17 of the Devils 23 1st quarter points on his way to a career high 30 points for the game. Groenewald would lead all scorers on the night. Fellow senior Isaiah Collins did most of his damage in the 2nd half scoring 14 of his 23 points in the games final 16 minutes. Collins would also add 13 rebounds for the Devils. Cooper Hyatt added 12 points to go with 3 assists and 4 steals, while Carter Kirkland finished with 10 points to go with 4 assists.
Kirkland was 8 for 8 from the free throw line, sparking the Maroon Devils to a 25 of 27 night at the charity stripe.
Cherokee got 19 points and 8 rebounds from Don Bradley. Jordan Arkansas, Kaden Smith and James Reed all finished with 10 points for the Braves.
