Bryson City – The Lady Devils hosted Andrews in volleyball action on Thursday. Swain took the first set, but dropped the next three as Andrews took a 3-1 win by the scores of 17-25, 25-23, 25-19, and 25-15.
Being so young, with three freshman starters, the Lady Devils biggest problem comes from having stretches of consecutive mistakes that put them in a hole. In the second set Swain had such a stretch. Leading 11-10, the Lady Devils committed five consecutive mistakes, which coupled with an Andrews kill left Swain trailing 15-11. It would prove to be a hole that Swain could not dig out of eventually falling 25-23. The third and fourth sets were similar, but with larger stretches.
Senior, Savana Smith led the Lady Devils with 15 kills and a pair of blocks. Kierston Smith and Gracie Sutton had 4 kills each.
