Cherokee – The Lady Devils big conference championship didn’t come without a bunch of outstanding performances. One such performance was turned in by Monica Riordan, and for her efforts Riordan has been named the Smoky Mountain Conference Most Valuable Runner.
It was a record setting performance for Swain High senior Monica Riordan. Riordan took 1st place in the 100-meter hurdles with a new SMC record time of 15.01, a full second ahead of 2nd place finisher, teammate Jessie Lohmann. Then Riordan would team with Lohmann, Mazie Helpman and Jenna Marr to take 1st in the 4×200-meter relay. The foursome broke another SMC record finishing in a time of 1:49.67.
