Bryson City (Special to the MDN) – The boys track team has made great strides this year, holding a nearly unblemished conference record of 15-1, falling only once to Murphy in a meet in Cherokee on May 26th. One of the biggest surprises has been the emergence of sprinter Landon Matz. Landon is ranked in the top three of the conference in both the 100 and 200 meter races, and looks to be in the mix for an individual conference title in both. The distance team has carried over their success of the cross country season to the track oval. The freshman trio of Connor Brown, Conner Lambert and Kane Jones are all in the mix for conference honors in multiple events. Conner Brown will compete in four distance races at conference in an effort to help the boys win a team title. We will also lean heavily this week on Austin Jenkins (hurdles), Michael Winchester (throws), and Dawson Cody (jumps). Our boys vaulters will look to sweep the podium this week with Matthew Gray, John Schuler and Owen Craig. Matthew set the school record in Pole Vault on the 26th with a vault of 13’7, which currently ranks 1st in the state.
