Bryson City – The Maroon Devil baseball team continued their hot start on Wednesday. Swain scored in every frame but the 3rd in taking a 9-1 win over visiting Robbinsville. The game was to have been played Tuesday at Robbinsville, but weather prevented it from being played. Then on Wednesday the teams switched fields, making Swain the home team, in order to get the game played as Robbinsville’s field was still too wet.
Swain took advantage of the home cooking, even if it was played at the Rec Park. Junior Carson Taylor knocked in 5 runs with 3 hits on the day. Cooper Hyatt added a pair of RBI to his stat line while Carter Hayes drove in the other Swain run. Taylor finished the day 3-4 with a double, while Hyatt was 2-4. Meanwhile Gabe Lillard and Ronnie Griggs were each 2-2 with a pair of runs scored and Lillard added a pair of stolen bases.
On the mound it was Lillard who picked up the win as he and Carson Taylor split the pitching duties. Lillard scattered 5 hits and struck out 5, limiting Robbinsville to 1 run. Taylor pitched the final 3 innings striking out 7 and giving up no hits or walks.
