Cherokee – The Maroon Devil baseball team traveled to Cherokee on Friday to open their season. Swain cruised to an 11-0 win, scoring in each frame but the 5th.
On the mound Gabe Lillard and Carson Taylor combined for the Devils. Combined the duo scattered 3 hits striking out 9 and walking only 3. Lillard tossed 3 innings to pick up the win, while Taylor worked 2 innings in relief.
Taylor and Carter Hayes were hot at the plate for Swain. Taylor went 3-3 and drove in a run, while Hayes went 2-4 with 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Cooper Hyatt and Cameron Blankenship were 1-2 on the day, Hyatt drove in a pair of runs while Blankenship scored a pair of runs. Gabe Lillard, Lawson Woodard and Will Jenkins each had a hit for the Devils.
