Bryson City (Special to the MDN) – The Lady Devils Soccer Team hosted the Blue Ridge Bobcats on Wednesday night. It would not take long for the Lady Devils to get on the board. Junior Mazie Helpman would find Junior Kaylee Simmons with a long throw which Simmons would convert into the first goal of the game. Just four minutes later Simmons would add another goal when Freshman Anna Gray would find her with a pass. With 5 minutes left in the first half, the Bobcats would add their first goal of the night making the score 2-1. With 40 seconds left in the game Helpman would find Simmons for her third goal of the game. The Lady Devils would finish the half up 3 to 1.
In the second half the Bobcats would score once again nine minutes into the half. Twenty minutes into the second half the Lady Devils would add the final goal of the game when Helpman would score an unassisted goal giving the Devils the 4-2 win. On defense, Senior Kate Poss led the way with 31 Clears/Steals. Junior Jade Henry had 8 and Sophomore Elke Reinert had 7. In goal Senior Maddie Lay had 14 saves. The Player of the Game for the Lady Devils was Maddie Lay. “Maddie played a great game in goal and saved us numerous times.” said Cline. “Maddie has really developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the conference.”
