Bryson City – Friday the Lady Devils went toe-to-toe with the first place Black Knights. It would be the Knights big 3rd inning that proved to be the difference. Robbinsville broke a scoreless game open with a 5 run 3rd on their way to a 6-4 win.
Things unraveled quickly in the 3rd for Swain. A pair of walks opened the inning, then an error and a few passed balls combined with aggressive baserunning allowed the Knights to find home plate 5 times and take a 5-0 lead.
The Lady Devils struck back in the bottom of the 4th with a pair of runs. Kele Eagleman walked, and was replaced by courtesy runner Kierston Smith. Smith would score the Devils first run on a Black Knight error. Ashley Stevenson singled and later would score on a Hannah Epperson single, cutting the Black Knight lead to 5-2.
Robbinsville scored a single run in the top of the 5th to extend their lead to 6-2. Swain battled back in the bottom half of the frame. Kandyce Crisp walked, Tori Johnson came on to run for Crisp. Savana Smith tripled to right field to score Johnson from first. Smith scored on a Kele Eagleman ground out to cut the lead to 6-4.
Maddie Spates and Kay Johnson paced the Lady Devils with a pair of hits each. Spates, Savana Smith and Eagleman drove in a run each for Swain.
