Bryson City – The Maroon Devils have been shorthanded all season long, but things took a dramatic turn Friday as they were without their most experienced player in Damian Lossiah. Lossiah has emerged as a star on both sides of the ball this season. To make matters worse the Devils were hosting defending State 1A Champion Robbinsville. The Black Knights wasted little time in building a lead, as the two teams went to halftime with the Knights on top 38-0. Swain added a score in the 4th quarter for the final margin of 38-6.
Gabe Lillard, who got his first varsity start at quarterback, scored the lone Swain touchdown on a 48 yard run midway through the 4th quarter. It would prove to be the lone bright spot for the Devils offense on the night. Swain, once again, had problems holding onto the ball fumbling it away 4 times. This included the Knights first score of the night, as Robbinsville recovered a Swain fumble in the endzone for their first touchdown.
Carson Taylor finished with 11 tackles and a fumble recovery, for a very busy Maroon Devil defense. Elijah Watty had 10 and Brenn Jackson finished with 8 tackles for Swain.
