Murphy (Special to the MDN) – The Maroon Devils Men’s Soccer Team traveled to Murphy on Saturday for a rescheduled game. The two teams played a hard fought game all the way to the end on some very wet field conditions. The first half would see neither team score a goal. Two minutes into the second half, Senior Chase Burrell would connect with Sophomore Landon Matz for a goal. Ten minutes later the Bulldogs would convert a corner kick into a goal. With 16 minutes left in the game, Murphy would score another goal off a corner kick. Murphy would give the Devils their first conference loss of the season.
“The field was in rough shape for the game today, but both teams played on the field. Murphy had to overcome the same issues with the field that we had to overcome.” said Head Coach Scott Cline. “Murphy just wanted it more than our team today. They outworked us.” On defense Junior Levi Trantham would lead the way with 14 Steals/Clears, followed by Senior Booth Bassett with 8, and Seniors Chase Burrell and Anthony Reyes each with 6.
