Bryson City – It was 4 sets of exciting and close volleyball on Friday. The Lady Devils could not find the magic to pull out close sets, sometimes the breaks just fall that way. Robbinsville fought back, after dropping the 1st set to Swain, to take the next 3 sets and the 3-1 win. The scores were tight going 25-23, 17-25, 21-25, and 23-25.
Robbinsville went on runs deep in each game to pull away from Swain. In the first set, the Lady Devils built a 17-11 advantage, but Robbinsville scored the next 8 points to take a 19-17 advantage. In the frame the Lady Devils got kills from Savana Smith and Jenna Marr to eventually close out the set.
Then in the fourth frame the Lady Devils were hot from the start, racing out to a 10-2 advantage behind the dominating play of Jenna Marr, who would have 3 kills and 4 blocks to fuel the Swain run. Jessie Lohmann served up a pair of aces in the 8-0 start for Swain. Unfortunately Robbinsville would stage another late run erasing a 20-12 Swain lead and eventually tying the match at 21. Mazie Helpman had a pair of kills that pushed Swain to a 23-22 edge. The Black Knights would score the next 3 points though and take the match.
Jenna Marr finished with a match high 21 kills and 7 blocks. Savana Smith added 8 kills while Hannah Epperson finished with 5.
Swain travels to Hayesville on Tuesday for a full slate of matches.
