Bryson City – The Lady Devils built an 11 point lead heading into the 4th quarter then held off a Rosman comeback to post a 63-58 conference win on Friday. Swain controlled the 2nd and 3rd quarters to build their 11 point lead, with their largest lead being 14 points.
Mazie Helpman paced all scorers with a game high 27 points. Helpman made 9 straight free throws down the stretch to help Swain hold off the Tigers and scored 15 of her 28 in the second half.
Senior Ashton Younce pulled down a career and game high 15 rebounds, including 10 on the defensive glass. Younce’s efforts gave Swain a decisive advantage on the boards. She also contributed 4 assists and 4 steals for the Devils.
Savana Smith added 15 points on 6 of 13 shooting, while Freshman Amaya Hicks chipped in 11 points. Hicks added 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
