Bryson City (Special to the Maroon Devils Network) – The Maroon Devils Men’s Soccer Team hosted the Cherokee Braves on Monday night in the second game of conference play. Coming off a heartbreaking loss in penalty kicks last week to Highlands the Devils were looking to right the ship. It did not take long for the Devils to get on the board. Two minutes into the game Freshman Matthew Gray intercepts a Braves pass burying his shot into the back of the net. With 9 minutes left in the half the Braves would commit a foul in the box giving the Devils a Penalty Kick. Junior Joao Segato would convert the Penalty Kick giving the Devils a 2-0 lead. With 5 and a half minutes left in the half Senior Nate Brock would score off a pass from Freshman Landon Matz. Swain would take a 3-0 lead into the half.
Eleven minutes into the second half Brock would take a corner kick curving it into the goal for the score. Four minutes later Brock would once again take a corner kick. This time he would find Senior Jonas Trejo with a beautiful header for a goal. The game would finish with the Devils taking a 5-0 win. “We started the game very flat, but eventually picked it up as the game progressed.” said Head Coach Scott Cline.
The player of the game for the Devils was Senior Nathan Brock. “Nate played great and played a major role in three goals.” said Cline. “Overall he really stepped it up.” The Devils will host the Murphy Bulldogs on Wednesday at 6:00. Murphy is coming off a 2-1 win over Highlands on Monday night.
