Bryson City – It was the Smoky Mountain Conference opener for both Cherokee and Swain this past Friday. The Maroon Devils continued their winning streak by posting a 41-0 shutout win over a shorthanded Braves squad.
Swain rushed for 352 yards on the ground, while limiting the Braves to only 40 rushing yards. Cherokee got 126 yards through the air, while Swain only had 34 passing yards.
The Maroon Devils got two touchdowns a piece from Bryce Sain and Ian Brooks, with Damian Lossiah and Carson Taylor adding a touchdown each. Gavin Lanning made good on five of his six extra point attempts.
Bryce Sain paced all rushers with 128 yards on only 9 carries. Carson Taylor had 81 yards on 3 carries, Damian Lossiah 67 yards and Ian Brooks 55 yards.
Connor Hyatt had 2 receptions, while Robert Green, Gaige Jones and Donnavin Groenewold had a catch each.
On the defensive side the Maroon Devils came away with 5 turnovers to go with 4 sacks. Lucas Brown snared 2 interceptions, while Jake Langston had 2 sacks. Cody Long and Nick Millsaps had a sack each. Langston finished with 11 tackles, while Long had 8 and Ian Brooks 7.
