The Maroon Devil Men’s Soccer Team traveled to Carolina Day School in Asheville, NC on Wednesday night to take on the Wildcats. It was a fast paced game that found the Wildcats moving the ball around the field and Swain on their heels quite often. The Wildcats would score their first goal with 25 minutes left in the first half and then their second goal with 4 minutes left in the half. The Devils would go into the half down 2-0. The Wildcats would score one more goal with 7 minutes left in the game winning 3-0.
“Carolina Day has a very talented team that really pushed us.” said Head Coach Scott Cline. “It gives us a level of play that we can strive for. They are definitely one of the best teams we have played all season.” In the game on defense, Senior Aiden Pond would lead the way with 6 Clears/Steals, followed by Senior Jonas Trejo and Freshman Landon Matz with 4, and Sophomore Lucas Trantham with 3. In goal Junior Noel Wolf had 20 Saves.
The player of the game for the Devils was Senior Aiden Pond. “Aiden played a great game. He leads by example on and off the field.” said Cline. “He really helped us out on the defensive end in this game.” The next two games for the Devils will both be at home at 6:00 on Monday against Tallulah Falls and 6:00 on Wednesday against Madison who the Devils tied the first game of the season.
