Bryson City – The Lady Devils had a busy week with a trio of matches. Swain took 2 out of the 3 matches to run their season record to 4-1. Last week the Devils downed Pisgah 3-1. Then this week they lost their first match of the season to Smoky Mountain on Monday by the score of 3-1, then bounced back on Tuesday by defeating Blue Ridge Early College 3-1.
Against Pisgah the middle hitting duo of Jenna Marr and Kaitlin Anthony paced the offense. Marr finished with 17 kills, to go with 9 blocks. Anthony had 11 kills and 4 aces. Ashton Younce finished with 15 assists, while fellow senior setter Katie Winchester had 14.
On Monday the Lady Devils lost by the scores of 25-20, 17-25, 18-25 and 17-25. It was a quite night offensively for Swain as Marr paced the attack with 14 kills and 5 blocks. Anthony finished with 8 kills. Hannah Epperson and Kenzie Eagleman had a pair of kills each. Katie Winchester had 12 assists and 4 kills. Ashton Younce had 7 assists, 3 aces, 2 kills and a block, while Kierra Shook added a kill to the attack.
Tuesday the Lady Devils returned to the win column by the scores of 25-22, 25-19, 19-25 and 25-11. Jenna Marr once again paced the way with 17 kills and 5 blocks. Kaitlin Anthony added 9 kills and 4 blocks. Hannah Epperson had 3 aces from the service line. Kenzie Eagleman had 3 kills and 2 aces. Katie Winchester had a team high 19 assists with 2 blocks and 2 kills, while Ashton Younce had 7 assists to go with 2 aces, 2 kills and a block.
