Bryson City (Special to the Maroon Devils Network) – The Maroon Devil Men’s Soccer Team hosted Mitchell on Wednesday night. It was another night of where the Devils found themselves having opportunities to take many shots. The Devils took a total of 30 shots in the game. ” Mitchell would get on the board first just four and a half minutes into the game. Swain would answer four minutes later with a goal of their own. Junior Booth Bassett would score his first goal of the season off a pass from Sophomore Travis Franklin. With 11 minutes left in the half, Freshman Landon Matz would score the first goal of his high school career off a long punt from Junior Goalkeeper Noel Wolf. With 4 minutes left in the half Junior Zachary Cline would score his first goal of the season as he dribbled past a few defenders for the goal.
In the second half, Swain did not let up as Cline would score once more off a throw in from Junior Dhruv Senghani. With five minutes left in the game Junior Chase Burrell would score off a pass from Cline. The game would finish with the Devils taking a 5-1 win over Mitchell.
“It was a well-played game by our team. We still need to work on finishing, but overall we moved the ball around really well all over the field.” said Head Coach Scott Cline. “We had many players that stepped up in this game. Matthew Gray and Landon Matz, two of our Freshman, are adapting well to playing at the high school level.”

The player of the game for the Devils was Junior Zachary Cline. “Zach did a great job distributing the ball to his teammates, giving them scoring opportunities.” said Coach Cline. “Overall he played well in many areas of the field.” The Devils will continue play next week when they travel to 2A Pisgah on Monday and host 3A Tuscola on Wednesday. Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m. starts.
