Six Different Lady Devils Score as Swain Blanks Braves

April 25, 2019 by Toby Burrell

Special to the Maroon Devils Network – The Lady Devils soccer team hosted the Cherokee Braves on Tuesday night for Senior Night. It was a night to celebrate Seniors with three different Seniors scoring on the night. The Lady Devils have a total of seven Seniors on the team: Aliyah Bigmeat, Alyssa Schofield, Aylan Meyers, Jessie Richards, Kyndall Cochran, Morgan Proctor, and Rachel Blythe.

It would be the first time the two teams have played this season since Cherokee would forfeit the first scheduled meeting. Eleven minutes into the game Freshman Kaylee Simmons scored the first goal of the game at the top of the box. Four minutes later Sophomore Isabelle Green would score the second goal of the game. With 8 minutes left in the half Cochran would score her first goal of the game off a pass from Freshman Avery Maples.

The Lady Devils would start the second half with a 3-0 lead. Four minutes into the second half Cochran would score her second goal of the game off another pass by Maples. 13 minutes into the second half Richards would score her first goal of the game off a pass by Cochran. With fifteen minutes left in the game Green would add her second goal of the game. The Lady Devils were not done yet as Simmons scored her second goal of the night off a pass from Sophomore Bri Ross with 8 minutes left in the game. One minute later Blythe would score her first goal ever off a pass from Maples. With 4 and a half minutes left Ross would end the scoring and the game off a pass from Junior Dhruti Senghani with a mercy rule win of 9-0. A total of 6 different Lady Devils would score on the night.

On defense, Sophomore Bri Ross would lead the way with 29 clears/steals. Sophomore Kate Poss added 23 followed by Junior Jessie Richards with 10, Junior Peyton Hines with 7 and Senior Morgan Proctor with 6. “Overall the girls executed the game really well.” said Head Coach Scott Cline. “The biggest adjustment for them was that we had a different starting lineup than we normally have.”

The player of the game for the Lady Devils was Sophomore Isabelle Green. “Isabelle was really aggressive in the middle of the field.” said Cline. “She did a great job of getting the ball moved around.”

The Lady Devils improve to 14-3 overall and 9-1 in the Smoky Mountain Conference. On Thursday they will host Highlands at 4:30 and then travel to Hayesville and play at 6:30 on Monday.
