Special to the Maroon Devils Network – The Lady Devils soccer team traveled to Mitchell on Friday night for a non-conference game. The Lady Devils got on the board 20 minutes into the game when Freshman Kaylee Simmons led Senior Kyndall Cochran with a pass where she found the back of the net. Thirteen minutes later Sophomore Isabelle Green would find Cochran for her second goal of the night. Swain would go into halftime up 2-0.
Eight minutes into the second half Mitchell would score their first goal of the game making the score 2-1. With 13 minutes left in the game Cochran took a corner kick and Green finished it with a header. The game would finish with the Lady Devils winning 3-1. “We played a bit sluggish in this game. We had some tired legs after the long game the night before in Murphy.” said Head Coach Scott Cline.
On defense, Sophomore Bri Ross led the way with 30 steals/clears, followed by Sophomore Kate Poss with 28, Junior Peyton Hines with 23, Freshman Jadyn Perez with 18, and Junior Rebecca Duncan with 15. In goal, Sophomore Maddie Lay would have three saves for the game.
The player of the game for the Lady Devils was Peyton Hines. “Peyton had to really step it up during this game since they were attacking her side a lot.” said Head Coach Scott Cline. “She rose to the occasion and even pushed up and helped out with the offense some.”
Swain will have three games this coming week. They will play Tri-County Early College at home on Monday at 6 pm, travel to Brevard on Tuesday at 5 pm and then at Highlands on Thursday at 6 pm.
