Waynesville – The Lady Devils took to the road on Thursday for their 3rd straight game. Swain traveled to Waynesville to face Tuscola in their first non-conference tilt of the season. They wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring 4 times in the top of the 1st. Those runs would prove to be enough as they rode the strong pitching performance of sophomore pitcher Stacey Griggs. Griggs posted her first shutout of the season, as the Lady Devils won 9-0.
Kenzie Eagleman drove in 3 runs with 2 hits including a 1st inning triple. Ashton Younce drove in 2 runs with 2 hits. The top of the order duo of Brayden Taylor and Kendall Bowers once again set the table for the Swain lineup by reaching base and utilizing their speed. Taylor reached base twice, stole 2 bases and scored twice. Bowers, who would end up leaving the game in the 2nd with a lower leg injury, got a hit, stole 2 bases and scored in only 2 innings of work.
Eagleman, Younce and Stacey Griggs all had 2 hits for the Lady Devils.
In the circle Griggs turned in another gem, perhaps her best of the season. She limited the Mountaineers to only 2 hits on the day, striking out 9 and walking only 1 batter in posting her 1st shutout of the season.
