Lady Devils Take 4-2 Win Over Tallulah Falls

March 7, 2019 by Toby Burrell

Special to the Maroon Devils Network – The Swain Maroon Devils Women’s soccer team hosted Tallulah Falls on Tuesday night for their first home game of the season. The Lady Devils spent the first half of the game taking over 30 shots on goal, while only finishing on one. With 3:30 left in the first half Senior Kyndall Cochran found the back of the net off of an assist from Sophomore Isabelle Green.
The second half proved to be different as the Lady Devils found the back of the net three times. Just 2:30 into the second half Cochran found scored off a pass from fellow Senior Jessie Richards. Almost 20 minutes into the second half Cochran scored again off a pass from Green. At the 30 minute mark, Cochran scored once more when the Keeper bobbled the ball into the goal. Freshman Jadyn Perez got the assist on the goal. Tallulah Falls would score 2 late goals making the game 4-2 in favor of the Lady Devils.

On the Defensive side of the ball the Lady Devils were led by Freshman Kate Poss with 10 Steals/Clears. Junior Peyton Hines added 5, and Junior Rebecca Duncan was next with 4. In Goal Sophomore Maddie Lay had 2 Saves and Junior Hope Long had 3 Saves.

“The team played really well. As you can see by our shots on goal we definitely need to work on finishing.” said Coach Scott Cline. “That will be our focus on Wednesday as we get ready to play Blue Ridge on Thursday.” Swain will open conference play at home on Thursday against Blue Ridge at 6 pm.

The Swain Player of the Game was Isabelle Green. “Isabelle really stepped it up this game. She has been battling an injury from our game last week and was not able to play against Pisgah.” said Cline. “She did a great job helping to control the ball in the middle of the field.”
