Bryson City – The Lady Devils expanded,what had been a comfortable lead, to double digits for much of the 2nd half on their way to a solid 66-54 win over visiting Blue Ridge Early College on Tuesday. Swain led by 7 at the half, but quickly expanded that to 11 by the end of the third quarter, mostly on the strength of center Taylor Collins.
Collins managed just the first minute and 30 seconds of the game before picking up 2 quick fouls and promptly sitting out the remainder of the first half. In the second half Collins put her team on her back, scoring all 19 of her points for the game in the 2nd half. She would finish with 19 points 10 rebounds and 8 blocked shots.
Mazie Helpman paced all scorers with a game high 23 points to go with 6 assists. Savannah Smith chipped in 11 points and had 7 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Ashton Younce had 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Senior Ayianna West came off the bench in relief of Collins in the first half and put together her best game of the season with 6 rebounds 2 steals and an assist.
Swain travels to Highlands on Friday.
