Bryson City – The Lady Devils had a pair of games this weekend. On Friday Swain took an easy 58-36 win over visiting Rosman. Then Saturday Franklin pulled away to take a 62-52 win, which was much closer than the final score indicated.
Friday the Lady Devils got off to a hot start and used that to build a big lead and cruise to the win. Freshman Mazie Helpman paced Swain with a game high 25 point to go along with 5 steals. Bri Ross turned in a solid performance finishing with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Taylor Collins added 10 points and 9 rebounds, while Ashton Younce finished with 8 rebounds.
Saturday the Lady Devils held the lead through the first half. Franklin would take the lead for the first time in the game at the 2:12 mark in the 3rd quarter. Foul problems plagued the Lady Devils throughout the second half, with Bri Ross fouling out early in the 4th quarter and Taylor Collins playing the whole 4th quarter with 4 fouls. Collins paced Swain with a dominating performance inside. The junior finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Mazie Helpman scored 16, while Savanna Smith had 12 points and 8 rebounds.
The Lady Devils return to conference play on Tuesday as they host Hayesville.
