Bryson City – The outcome was never really in doubt Thursday as the Maroon Devils hosted Hayesville in wrestling action. Hayesville only fielded 4 varsity wrestlers, leaving the Maroon Devils to pick up 10 wins by forfeit. Swain took 2 of the 4 actual matches on their way to a 72-12 conference win.
Senior heavyweight Noland Brown picked up one of the wins with a pin at the 1:25 mark in the 1st period. Brown moved his record to 17-1 and is ranked 3rd in the state. Junior Jonas Trejo, who is also ranked 3rd in the state, picked up the other win for the Devils. Trejo, wrestling at 138 pounds, built a huge 13-3 lead in points on his way to pinning his man in the 2nd period.
