Bryson City – It didn’t take long for perennial SMC power Cherokee to flex their muscles Friday. The Braves, who are 1-0 in SMC play, jumped out to a 21-10 1st quarter advantage on Swain, who entered the game also 1-0 in SMC play. Cherokee would go on to post a 79-51 win over Swain.
Cherokee got a game high 21 points from Deante Toineeta, who hit 5 3-point baskets, to go with 19 points from Tori Toineeta and 15 from Naomi Smith.
Mazie Helpman paced Swain with a team high 20 points. Taylor Collins added 12 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out with 2:29 remaining in the game. Ashton Younce finished with 8 points and 9 rebounds, while Bri Ross dished out 4 assists.
